Which one of these do you prefer: 'mom' or 'mum'?

I live in Canada, and my dad is very British. In Canada, the correct pronunciations and spellings for words are shared with the British, and throughout my life, my dad couldn't have stressed this point more. So I always say 'mum'. To me, 'mom' sounds wrong. That's just the way I've been taught.
