Online Check in with Southwest?

If i check in online with Soutwest and I have no bags, can i just go straight to security? Also since Southwest is "first come first serve" How will i know which group im in? Does it just say it on the ticket that i print out or would i have to go somewhere? Im flying from SLC to LAX if that helps..?
